River Tales
“River Tales” is the newest program Purple Rock Productions is offering. Telling several stories relating to rivers around the world, various puppetry techniques are blended with storytelling.
“The Rainbow Serpent” dances above the heads of the audience. The puppet that depicts the Australian Aboriginal mythic being is translucent, and worked from below with rods.
In another tale, from the Czech lands, a maiden is turned into a “rusalka”. Rusalky, like their sea-going counterparts the mermaids, lure sailors to their deaths. This is a twist on the little mermaid story, and is told with Czech-style marionettes.
“How the Nile Began” is an origin story out of Africa. Closer to home, another story tells about the Underground Railroad.
